scum: a manifesto
"Every man, deep down, knows he's a worthless piece of shit"
In 1967, Valerie Solanas wrote the radically feminist, "S.C.U.M. Manifesto: Society for Cutting Up Men." The manifesto suggested that in order for women to be truly liberated, they must overthrow the government and exterminate the male sex. SCUM: a manifesto is a look inside the mind of the woman who shot Andy Warhol and the mother of radical feminism, while examining the feminist movement today. No one is safe in the dark satire that is SCUM.
Since its premiere at the PotashCorp Saskatoon Fringe Theatre Festival in 2016, the play has undergone a developmental workshop by Canadian playwright, Vern Thiesen (Einstein’s Gift, Vimy) and was featured in the Saskatchewan Playwrights Centre’s Spring Festival of New Plays.
After a successful year of touring throughout Canada in 2017 & 2018, the show was remounted for production at Live Five Theatre (Saskatoon, SK) under the direction of Emma Tibaldo.
